The ABCs of Living in La Jolla

January 19, 2012Fanny RosentalBlog0

North of Pacific Beach, East of the bustling I-5 freeway and just below Del Mar, nestled amongst majestic Torrey Pines and rugged ocean cliffs, is the little beach community of La Jolla. This picturesque community, which is located at the northern tip of San Diego city, is a popular vacation spot. But while others have to look at pictures to remember their amazing time in La Jolla, Team Rosental can help you become one of the lucky few that gets to walk out their front door and experience the magic of La Jolla time and time again.

A is for amicable residents. La Jolla is a seaside resort community characterized by luxury properties, fine dining, upscale boutiques, elegance and class. However, the residents are not the stuck up snobs you might expect to find in such a location. On the contrary, they are incredibly friendly and welcoming. The La Jolla Newcomers Club makes special effort to welcome all new residents and give them opportunities to join clubs, participate in activities and meet fellow residents. La Jolla community members take great pride in their community and love sharing it with visitors and newcomers alike.

B is for biotech. The Biotech industry is one of San Diego’s most successful industries, and its hub is La Jolla. Johnson and Johnson, Transdel Pharmaceuticals, Pfizer are just some of the industry leaders headquartered in La Jolla. Other industries, such as telecommunications and environmental research and preservation, also provide a variety of jobs in and around La Jolla.

C is for coastal cliffs. Southern California, and San Diego in particular, is known for its spectacular beaches. So what’s so special about La Jolla’s beaches? Surrounding La Jolla’s pristine coastline are beautifully rugged coastal cliffs. These cliffs house some of the most beautiful homes in Southern California. They are a perfect backdrop for La Jolla’s clear blue waters. These cliffs make La Jolla beaches, especially Torrey Pines City Beach (better known as Blacks) a great place for hang gliding and paragliding. La Jolla beaches are also known for being excellent dive sites (La Jolla Cove), great surfing spots (Blacks and La Jolla Shores), kayaking, swimming and sunbathing.

D is for dining (and shopping!) Foodies love the quality and variety offered by the extensive collection of restaurants in La Jolla. Italian, Mexican, French and International cuisine are predominate along with seafood and steakhouses. This shopping is just as incredible. Art galleries, antique shops, jewelry stores and upscale apparel stores and unique specialty shops line the main streets of La Jolla.

E is for education. La Jolla is home to the University of California, San Diego. This prestigious liberal arts university offers a broad range of majors, but its close location to bio- tech industry leaders makes it best known for medical, biological, and environmental studies.  Many private and public school options are available for preschool through 12th grade students in La Jolla

F is for foot friendly. La Jolla is a small community and therefore, very “walkable”. Grocery stores, entertainment centers, elementary schools and beaches are all close together and can be easily accessed by walking or bicycling. Wonderful Mediterranean weather that rarely gets below 50 degrees or above 80 degrees means that you can walk throughout the city at just about any time of year.

G is for great location. Although La Jolla is a small community, it’s located in San Diego, one of the busiest and most exciting cities in the world. La Jolla is near the 5 freeway which means residents have easy access to other parts of San Diego, Orange County, the mountains and desert.

H is for housing. Although La Jolla is most famous for the beautiful coastal mansions that line the cliffs, there are a variety of different housing options available including studios, apartments, condos, beach cottages, single-family homes and luxurious estates. These dwellings come in a variety of process to suite the incomes of students and business professionals alike. This community has very few high-rise buildings and, consequently, many homes enjoy a gorgeous ocean view.
